Amritsar Group of Colleges (AGC) possesses a privileged right to promote higher education and to ensure women empowerment through gender equity in education. The Principle of Gender Equality is enshrined in the Indian Constitution in its Preamble, Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties and Directive Principles. The Constitution not only grants Equality to Women, Equal access to Participation and decision making of women in social, political and economic life of the nation has always been the prime area of concern by AGC. Time to time seminars, workshops and expert talks, offering key roles in institutional growth have always been initiated by the Institute. May it have been the subjects of ‘Role of Education to attain Gender Equality,’ ‘Women Economic Power’, ‘Women’s Position in Male Dominated Society,’ or the concepts of ‘Women Empowerment’, AGC Amritsar has always been the front runner.
To promote women education, the institute is doing consistent efforts. AGC step towards waiver of tuition fee for girl students at the time of admission (first semester only) to any of the academic programmes offered. They don’t have to pay any fees towards application cum registration for entrance & merit based admissions respectively. Also relaxation is provided to them in both the merit & entrance qualifying examination/marks.
Female employees also get maternity leave, child care leave and are also entitled to avail leave on adoption of child. Students apprised of the gender issues during the Orientation/Self Induction Program held for newly admitted students each year.
Central physical work out facility provided for students in girls & boys hostel. Indoor & outdoor games for Men & Women students and staff were held on various occasions.
Separate hostels for boys and girl students exist on the campus. Behavior of students is monitored under set of well defined rule under the guidance of wardens. All student and staff compulsory were their ID cards at all times on the campus thus ensuring non entry of any outsiders also unauthorized persons.
Institute has taken several measures to enhance safety & security on campuses by constituting Internal Grievance Cell, installing CCTV cameras & by providing round the clock security. The women security guards are also available at Girls hostels. This system ensures that all Female staff, students can move freely in the campus and feel assure that they are secure at all the time in the campus. Glass pane at eye level has been installed on the doors of faculty rooms & offices. Faculty has been directed to keep the door of the lecture hall open during classes. Medical centre with qualified doctors and Nursing staff is available in the campus to provide medical care to the students, Specialists are for also invited to visit the campus as and when necessary, nursing and other staff is available 24 hours with emergency medicine and ambulance.
The Counsellors of the Admission provides counseling to students of all departments. Training & Placement cell also conducted special lectures, mock interviews etc. for career counseling of students. In each block of the institute separate washroom are available for girls and boys.24 hour’s water is available with proper ventilation in the washroom. Separate girl’s common room is created with facilities like indoor games, first aid box and newspapers.
Institute also organized training programmes, seminars, workshops etc. on gender equity and sensitization.
